As of current a Sentai Sale is going on and I can hopefully use it to wrap up Clannad and get Hidamari Sketch X365.
I also have Aria to wrap up by way of Origination and eventually get Maria S4 once it's been solicited as it were.
As noted R1 has much competition. I have an interest in manga. I have import CDs I want. Also if I ever actually decide to give up on waiting for a license and start on an R2 series....
Still even if you remove the competition factor, the biggest problem for R1 right now is that I'm essentially running out of automatic titles.
Many titles that remain fall under the following categories. Automatic Pass, which won't be gotten anyway. Fragile Maybe, which may as well be the former until I say yes.
However the real fun is with the low to medium priority titles. Or rather I should say titles of undetermined priority. Titles that I know I have an interest in, but the problem is this.
It doesn't matter if I prioritize X over Y or Y over X. The end result is I'll feel I'll have made the wrong choice. Add in the competition factor and it just makes me more hesitant to get X or Y in general.
There are several R1 titles that in the past, I would have gotten without a second thought so long as the budget was there. However even if the budget for a title is there, I'm having those second thoughts.
It's now become less a case of "Do I want this title?" and more a case "Is it worth delaying something else for this?"
I guess I might be reaching the point where I'm at a conflict between trying to build up my library for variety's sake and trying to get what's truly important to me.
Things would be so much easier if I could predict what will and won't get licensed, but it's like I said. Even ignoring the competition factor, I'm still having this main issue.
It's also part of the reason I have yet to get some series. Especially ones where the wow factor has essentially worn off and they're not as automatic as they once would have been.
Never mind that some companies create a scenario where you're conditioned to wonder if you should just wait for a cheaper option and prioritize other series.
I also find the longer I put off getting a fragile maybe or undetermined priority series, the more time I have to tell myself that I should just keep putting it off even longer.
Sometimes I'm not even sure what I should be doing anymore in terms of R1. Aside from progressing my current active series. |

After doing my Ehrgeiz review I was a bit hesitant to do another anime review, but I decided to give it another go finally... This time it's my "Automatic #1 Most Wanted Anime License", Ring ni Kakero 1!
It's split up into 5 parts (two for Season 1, two for Season 2, and a look at the 5-minute pilot film), and I used the blog post/review I put up a while ago for the basic reviewing material. Overall I think this is a much better anime review than my Ehrgeiz review, and I might even go back and redo my Ehrgeiz review one day.
Anyway, here are the videos, and if you feel like critisizing it in any way... Please do so.
Season 1 Part 1
Season 1 Part 2
Season 2 Part 1
Season 2 Part 2
Pilot Film
Enjoy! Maybe I'll actually try doing more of these every now and then, and I also encourage watching the video game reviews and first impressions I've done. |
